Context

A cross-repo review compared tbtc-v2 #1116 and keep-core #4282 against the M1 reservations specification. This PR closes the tbtc-v2 code findings on top of reservations-upgrade; the larger wallet-coordination, SPV and watcher fixes live in the paired keep-core PR.

Changes

  • Validate reservation acceptance outputs against the action's snapshotted minAmount, not the current governance minimum. This preserves a request that was valid when authorized after governance raises the live minimum.
  • Generate canonical tuple selectors from the ABI fragments instead of hashing the JSON tuple placeholder, then regenerate the reservation ABI snapshot.
  • Add regression coverage for the snapshotted minimum and all affected selectors.
  • Correct reservation comments that described dissolutionEligibleAt and fee-debt behavior inaccurately.
  • Harden activation scripts and the deployment runbook around fee-reserve setup and the keep-core activation-block ordering gate.

Verification

  • yarn build: pass.
  • yarn typecheck: pass.
  • yarn format: pass (existing repository warnings only; no errors, Prettier clean).
  • Full Hardhat suite: 3417 passing, 33 pending. This workstation exports FORKING_URL, so the run removed that host variable to match CI. Its global deployment fixture also exceeded the repository's 60-second Mocha limit on this host; a temporary untracked config raised only that timeout to five minutes. The repository config was not changed.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes

    • Reservation-anchor proposals now honor the minimum deposit recorded when the acceptance was authorized, even if the live minimum changes later.
    • Fee repayment can use the vault’s full TBTC balance; if repayment leaves no surplus above the reserve target, the operation completes without reverting.
  • Documentation

    • Clarified activation timing, fee-reserve configuration, and how acceptances are handled while the vault is untrusted.

…napshot selectors

- WalletProposalValidator.validateReservationAnchorProposal compares the
deposit against the Pending action's snapshotted minAmount, matching
settlement. A governance increase of the live minimum can no longer make
an in-flight, settleable acceptance unsignable (NFR-SEC-4).
- reservationAbiSnapshot computes EVM-canonical selectors for tuple inputs
(tuples expand to their component types); the checked-in snapshot is
regenerated and a test pins the four tuple-input selectors directly.
- Comments: dissolutionEligibleAt's single M1 reader is the Closing-wallet
branch of notifyReservationStranded; sweepFees records the M1 no-floor
  debt repayment decision.
- Caps runbook and scripts 97/98: client activation ordering gate before
setVaultStatus(vault, true), the direct-credit fallback (no initiation
fee) after vault trust is revoked, and an explicit feeReserveTarget
  governance step.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

Reservation-anchor validation now uses the minimum amount recorded in the pending action. ABI selector snapshots use canonicalized signatures. Reservation deployment guidance covers activation ordering, fee-reserve configuration, and settlement behavior when the vault is untrusted.

Changes

Reservation updates

Layer / File(s) Summary
Snapshot-based anchor validation
solidity/contracts/bridge/WalletProposalValidator.sol, solidity/test/bridge/WalletProposalValidator.test.ts
The validator checks the deposit against the pending action’s snapshotted minimum and fee. Tests cover changed live minimums and the exact authorization boundary.
Canonical ABI selector snapshots
solidity/test/fixtures/reservationAbiSnapshot.ts, solidity/test/fixtures/ReservationAbi.snapshot.json, solidity/test/bridge/Bridge.ReservationAbiSnapshot.test.ts
The snapshot helper derives selectors and event topics from ethers interfaces. The fixture selectors and tests use canonicalized tuple signatures.
Reservation and fee lifecycle guidance
solidity/contracts/bridge/Reservation.sol, solidity/contracts/vault/ReservationVault.sol, solidity/docs/RESERVATION_CAPS_DEPLOYMENT.md
Comments and deployment guidance describe the dissolution timestamp reader, fee-debt repayment and sweep behavior, and settlement when the vault is untrusted.
Activation ordering and deployment notices
solidity/deploy/97_set_reservation_parameters.ts, solidity/deploy/98_generate_reservation_mainnet_calldata.ts, solidity/docs/RESERVATION_CAPS_DEPLOYMENT.md
The guide and scripts state the keep-core activation-block ordering requirement. The scripts also print notices about the fee reserve and settlement while the vault is untrusted.

Priority: ⬇️ Low

Estimated code review effort: 3 (Moderate) | ~25 minutes

Change: Bug fix

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to d7fca

The deployment guide misdescribes recovery options when no keep-core activation block is configured. Correct the wording before merge so operators are not misled. The validator, ABI selector and script changes show no concrete problems.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to d7fca

The validator now honors the minimum recorded when an acceptance was authorized. Depositor identity, fee limits, and the on-chain settlement floor remain in place. Activation still depends on operators coordinating the client release and governance actions; that coordination is not verified here.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The affected authorization scope is an individual depositor-requested reservation action and its wallet-bound anchor, not an attacker-selected global minimum. The assessed deployment dependency reaches the network-wide activation decision, which remains a separate governance action.

Security Findings and Attack Paths

  • inferred — No introduced path was established for a depositor to lower the recorded minimum or settle a below-snapshot anchor: the depositor may initiate the request, but its terms are read from governance parameters and the proof checks them independently.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Proposal validation still requires a pending Acceptance action, a matching target wallet, a revealed unswept reserved deposit, a bounded positive fee, and matching vault routing. The changed comparison substitutes the action's minimum within those existing checks.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — The activation-block prerequisite is communicated to operators but is not encoded in the generated setVaultStatus action. Incorrect sequencing remains an operational exposure of the rollout, not a newly introduced authority bypass in this PR.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Before executing activation, independently record confirmation of parameter finalization, the network's client activation block, and the fee-reserve governance decision; the new notices alone cannot enforce those conditions.

- **(a) Network with a configured activation block:** the wrong order opens a temporary gap - reserved deposits can be revealed and accepted on-chain while no client produces the anchor proof or handles strand recovery, and the gap lasts only until the configured block, after which coordination starts and the positions settle normally.
- **(b) Network with no entry in `reservationsActivationBlocks`:** `ReservationsActivationBlock` falls through to `math.MaxUint64` and the client never activates reservation coordination for that network. Deposits can be revealed and accepted on-chain while no client will ever coordinate them; the strand-recovery paths become the only way out, and late-settlement races are left unresolved permanently.

Do not describe stranding as the only recovery path.

ReservationRouter.submitReservationAcceptanceProof allows an authorized SPV maintainer to settle a qualifying pending acceptance or a timed-out acceptance within the late-settlement window. The no-entry case can leave automatic client coordination inactive, but it does not make stranding the only recovery path.

…ivation

- RESERVATION_CAPS_DEPLOYMENT.md:55-56: without an activation block no
  wallet signs an anchor, so there is no acceptance proof to submit;
the exits are acceptance timeout, the depositor's Bitcoin refund
after the locktime, and stale pending-deposit cleanup, not stranding.
- WalletProposalValidator.test.ts:2901: the header now says only the

  mock-only check.
… path

RESERVATION_CAPS_DEPLOYMENT.md:56: without client coordination there is no proof unless the wallet signs and broadcasts an anchor separately; timeout and the Bitcoin refund are the normal fallback, not the only route.
