Wildcat Kiosk is a minimal custom Home launcher for a school cafeteria. It shows the Wildcat logo briefly, then opens AbleSign. While the logo is visible, staff can press Menu five times quickly to open a time-limited admin menu. Its accessibility redirect supports both Fire TV Home and Google TV Home.
Open the project in Android Studio and build the app module, or run ./gradlew assembleDebug when a Gradle wrapper is available.
-
Install AbleSign first.
-
Install this APK.
-
Enable the accessibility-based Fire TV Home and Google TV Home redirect. Check the current value first: writing
enabled_accessibility_servicesdirectly can overwrite another enabled accessibility service, so preserve and include any existing service entries when setting the value.adb shell settings get secure enabled_accessibility_services
If no other accessibility service is enabled, run:
adb shell settings put secure enabled_accessibility_services \ com.weeklywildcat.firekiosk/com.weeklywildcat.firekiosk.HomeRedirectService adb shell settings put secure accessibility_enabled 1
-
Set Wildcat Kiosk as the Home launcher using ADB, where supported:
adb shell cmd package set-home-activity com.weeklywildcat.firekiosk/.MainActivity adb shell input keyevent HOME
-
Test:
adb shell input keyevent HOME adb shell input keyevent BACK adb reboot
-
Admin access:
- On an unpaired or revoked device, the Health Pairing QR screen opens automatically at kiosk startup; no remote gesture is needed.
- To reopen it later, press Home and hold the remote's Select/OK (D-pad center) button for about 1.5 seconds while the black Wildcat logo is visible. This works on Fire TV and Google TV.
- Menu five times (or Play/Pause five times) remains a legacy fallback.
- Choose System Settings or Health Pairing. Scan the QR code with an authorized phone to open the pairing approval form; the displayed short code is a fallback. Select Launch AbleSign to skip pairing for now. Kiosk mode resumes after 10 minutes, even if the app process is recreated.
-
Recovery:
-
Keep ADB debugging enabled during testing.
-
Do not disable Amazon's launcher until the setup has been tested for several days.
-
To uninstall the kiosk app:
adb uninstall com.weeklywildcat.firekiosk
-
-
To disable the accessibility redirect:
adb shell settings delete secure enabled_accessibility_services adb shell settings put secure accessibility_enabled 0
This is an accessibility-based Home redirect, not an actual replacement or removal of Amazon's protected system launcher. It is a soft kiosk, not enterprise device management: it is intended to stop casual cafeteria use and does not prevent factory reset, ADB access, or Amazon system updates.
The standalone monitoring service, deployment configuration, and Cloudflare Tunnel documentation are maintained in weeklywildcat/signage-health.
