Summary

Updates platform requirements for the GLIDE 2.6.0 release. It replaces #286, which mixed correct 2.6 changes with claims the release artifacts don't support.

Issue link

N/A. Follow-up to #286.

Content Changes

Requirement Was Now Source
Node.js version 16+ 20+ engines in npm @valkey/valkey-glide@2.6.0-rc4
Node.js on Amazon Linux 2 listed as tested not supported rc4 linux-*-gnu binaries require GLIBC_2.28; AL2 ships 2.26
Alpine Linux / MUSL not supported Node.js, Java, Go, PHP, Ruby; not Python or C# npm linux-*-musl packages, Maven linux_musl-* jars, Go -tags=musl libraries, PHP 1.2.0 README, Ruby gem musl libraries; no musllinux wheels on PyPI, no musl targets in C# release-1.2
Python versions 3.9 to 3.13 3.9 to 3.14 cp39–cp314 wheels for 2.6.0rc3 on PyPI
Java version JDK 11+ JDK 8+ (11+ recommended) options.release = 8 in java/build.gradle; CI tests JDK 8, 11, 17, and 21
Windows (quickstart) Java only, x86_64 Java and C#; arm64 for C# Maven windows-x86_64 jar; C# os-matrix.json
Ruby macOS Linux and macOS macOS on Apple silicon only Ruby 1.1.0-rc1 gem ships only aarch64-apple-darwin
Node.js incompatible distros Debian 11, Ubuntu 20.04, Mint 20, Pop!_OS 20.04, AL2 Ubuntu 18.04, AL2 Debian 11 and Ubuntu 20.04 ship glibc 2.31, Ubuntu 18.04 ships 2.27
glibc 2.17 clients Python, Java, Go Python, Java, Go, C#, Ruby C# CD targets glibc 2.17; Ruby gem libraries require 2.17
FFI mechanisms Aside: "Py03", JNI Paragraph: PyO3 (async) and CFFI (sync), JNI, NAPI-RS, cgo, P/Invoke (C#), C extension (PHP), ffi gem (Ruby) Client Cargo.toml, pyproject.toml, package.json, Go source, C# LibraryImport in FFI.methods.cs, PHP extension source, Ruby gem dependency

The protobufjs note stays because the Node.js client still encodes connection requests and routes with protobufjs (BaseClient.ts at v2.6.0-rc4). The gzip size figures are removed because they couldn't be verified.

Implementation

Every value was checked against the 2.6.0 release artifacts or build config, not the client READMEs. Several rc4 READMEs are out of date: Node still lists Node 16 and glibc 2.17, Java says MUSL is unsupported, and Python's version table stops at 3.13.

Not covered here:

  • The glibc floor for Go and PHP. Go links a static library and PHP builds from source, so the floor depends on the user's build environment.
  • PHP on Alpine. Upstream has no CI for it; support is based on the manual build reported in valkey-glide-php#291.

Testing

  • pnpm run format:check
  • pnpm build, including internal link validation

Align installation, quickstart, known issues, and architecture pages with
the 2.6.0 release artifacts:
- Node.js now requires 20+ and does not support Amazon Linux 2.
- Alpine Linux / MUSL is supported by Node.js, Java, Go, PHP, and Ruby;
  Python and C# are not.
- Python 3.9 to 3.14; Java JDK 8+ (11+ recommended); C# on Windows arm64.
- Ruby prebuilt macOS libraries are Apple silicon only.
- Remove distros that ship glibc 2.31 from the Node.js incompatible list,
add Ubuntu 18.04, and list C# and Ruby with the glibc 2.17 clients.
- Fix the FFI mechanism list (PyO3/CFFI, NAPI-RS, cgo).
- Drop unverified protobufjs size figures; the dependency is still used.

Replace the aside with a paragraph covering every client's interop
mechanism, adding C# (P/Invoke), PHP (C extension), and Ruby (ffi gem).

Replace the MUSL aside with an Alpine Linux / MUSL subsection under
Linux that lists only the clients without MUSL support.

Java needs a linux_musl classifier or the uber jar, Go needs the musl
build tag, and PHP needs extra Alpine build dependencies.
