-
Take a sheet of A4 paper or equivalent size. Divide the paper equally into three horizontal rows. The top-most third of the page is the Upper Wall. The middle section is the Mid-Wall. The lower third of the page is the Low Wall.
-
Drop a handful of dice onto the page, noting where they land. I suggest using five or six dice, but there is no upper limit. The more dice you drop, the more locations you will create. You may use any size dice up to d20, but be aware that using smaller dice sizes will constrain the results.
-
Draw circles around the dice where they fell, and note the number showing on the dice. Consult the Location Type table to find what kind of location has been created. Note that the three strata of the Wall have different columns. Use the d20 tables on the appropriate page to fill out the locations.
-
Some locations have special properties that affect the space above, below, or level with them. These location types are marked with an asterisk. Their special effects are as follows:
-
Giant Tree: the tree grows upwards, and all Locations directly above the tree are entangled or shaded by its trunk and branches.
-
Hanging Jungle - The jungle spreads voraciously in both directions. Locations horizontally adjacent to the jungle's origin point are also jungles, as well as containing a second Location type.
-
Weep - both pale and sable ikor weeps affect all locations below them, flooding them with ikor.
-
Now that you have a rough map of the region, sketch out the routes between Locations. Even-numbered Locations connect to all their neighbouring Locations via safe routes. Two odd-numbered Locations connect via a route with a hazard. Use the Routes table to generate descriptors for the route if desired. Roll 1d6 to determine the base travel time in days (climbing upwards takes double the base time, climbing down takes half the base time).
-
The following locations will always connect to an ikorvein, an alternative method of transport through the Wall: Beetle Ranch, Needle Ship Port, Low Wall Settlement, Sargattean Fort, Monastery, Way Station, Upper Wall Settlement, and Weep (Both). Connect them with dotted lines to indicate the vein routes. A Needle Ship can sail between two locations within hours.
-
Populate the region with encounter tables. The Wall's ecology changes as one climbs through its strata, so it may be worth creating multiple smaller encounter tables for each layer.
-
Look at any settlements or outposts in the region, and attach a few named NPCs to them.

| Sargattean pack beetles are amongst the Narrow City's most prestigious exports, famed throughout Vaarn for their obedience and loyalty. As large and strong as an ox, they are capable of climbing sheer surfaces while carrying both a rider and a substantial quantity of baggage, making the creatures superior to iron mules or zorses for exploring the vertiginous inner regions of the Wall. They are docile herbivores, easily pleased by the promise of honeyed apples and other sugared treats. |

To be a Needlesman takes no small courage. You must endure gruelling dives through an airless, lightless labyrinth of pipes, navigating with sonar and prayers, using your grapple-anchor to dock at harbours and your sharpened ram to breach blockages in the pipe, the roil of the ikor tumbling your ship like a sand grain in a storm.
To be a Needlesman is to train for years, memorising the three-dimensional maps of the Wall's waterways until you can see them in your dreams, and even this is not enough to prevent capable crews losing their way, if a pipe has sprung a new breach or a new blockage has formed. Little wonder that Needle Ship crews develop intense camaraderie, and are known for their courage and their lunacy in equal measure.

| Needle Ships are submarines, named for their slender shape and piercing prows. These craft sail inside the arteries that carry seawater and ikor through the Wall, surfacing in 'harbours' that have been carved into the Wall's flanks. Needle Ships have sailed the Wall for centuries, and are a time-honored method of trade and communication inside the superstructure. |

The veins of the machine gods still pump blood and bile through the mighty edifice. In some places these veins are ruptured and 'weeps' of ikor pour out into the Wall. Pale ikor nourishes life wile sable ikor ends it, yet both are sought for differing purposes. All intelligent creatures of the Wall know the qualities of ikor, and freely share this knowledge.
The nourishing coolant-blood of the machine gods. Pale Ikor resembles water in colour and consistency, although there is a golden particulate effect when it is held up to sunlight.
Pale ikor is safe for biological creatures to drink. It tastes like sugared seawater, although it does not induce thirst as true saltwater does.
For synthetic beings, pale ikor is a remarkably effective super-coolant. Synthetic characters who drink a ration of Pale Ikor during a Short Rest regain 2d6 + CON bonus HP. Synthetic creatures who dwell far from the Wall are always eager to trade for Pale Ikor.
The rich dark Titan-bile that is brewed in the Wall’s deepest recesses, a toxic cocktail of nanomachines and pseudoneural tissue. Sable ikor is thick and glutinous, with a texture likened to oil. It is a rich glittering black, with a plethora of colours visible when exposed to UV light.
Sable ikor is deadly to biological creatures. If ingested or touched it acts as a d10 TOX attack.
Synthetic beings who drink sable ikor must make a PSY save. On failure, they are overwhelmed by fragmented nightmare-memories of the Titan AIs. They take d6 PSY damage and roll on the nightmare table below. On a success, they take d6 PSY damage and develop a new Mystic Gift, either random or chosen.
