write-naturally is a Codex skill for drafting and revising prose so it sounds clear, specific, and appropriate to its author and audience.
This skill was created from Wikipedia's community-written field guide, Wikipedia: Signs of AI writing.
The Wikipedia page describes patterns editors often notice in AI-generated text, including:
- Unsupported claims about importance, impact, or wider trends
- Promotional language and vague attribution
- Superficial analysis added after factual statements
- Repetitive sentence structures and forced three-item lists
- Generic introductions, summaries, and conclusions
- Excessive headings, bold text, and other formatting
Codex read the article and turned its observations into a reusable writing workflow. The resulting skill does not try to fool AI detectors or deliberately add mistakes. Instead, it encourages writing based on concrete facts, an appropriate voice, natural sentence rhythm, and defensible editorial choices.
The skill guides Codex through four stages:
- Establish the intended author, audience, purpose, and tone.
- Draft from concrete facts, examples, decisions, and consequences.
- Remove generic or overly patterned writing habits.
- Review the result for specificity, accuracy, and natural rhythm.
When revising existing text, it also instructs Codex to preserve the original meaning and avoid inventing supporting facts.
Clone the repository directly into your Codex skills directory:
git clone https://github.com/taupirho/write-naturally.git "$HOME\.codex\skills\write-naturally"Then mention $write-naturally in a prompt:

Codex may also activate the skill automatically when asked to make prose sound more natural, less robotic, or less like generic AI-generated writing.
Alternatively, if you're on another coding agent e,g Cursor, Claude etc .., you can create your own skill file. Here is the prompt I used to create write-naturally.
read this wikipedia post on signs of ai writing and produce a skill that can be used to
write more naturally, the way a human would
