I ran a full link check across the 406 links in the README. Summary:

On false positives. Only hard 404/410 are reported. Anything returning 403/412 (bot protection), 429 (rate limiting) or 000 (DNS/TLS failure) is excluded - on a list this size those are overwhelmingly false alarms, and a report that is half wrong is worse than no report. Every link below returned 404/410 on two separate passes, with redirects followed to the final destination. GitHub entries go through the API rather than HTTP, so a renamed or transferred repository is not mistaken for a deleted one.

Happy to open a PR fixing these if useful - and to re-run the check periodically, since at 406 links keeping up with rot by hand is a real burden.

Checked with link-rot-scanner, a tool I wrote for this; the methodology above is documented there.

Following up on the report above with an offer, since the numbers I pulled
while scanning suggest the bottleneck here isn't the links.

There are 295 open PRs and 19 open issues, from at least 95 different people.
The oldest PR dates to May 2020.

A list at this scale is a treadmill, and I don't read the queue as neglect —
most of those PRs are single-line additions that need three mechanical checks:
does the link resolve, is it already in the list, and is the target project
still alive. I built a scanner for exactly that class of work, and the report
above came out of it.

What I can do:

• Triage all 295 PRs into merge / close / needs-your-call, each with the reason
  attached, so you're reviewing a table instead of 295 tabs
• Run the link and repo-health check on a schedule so rot surfaces in weeks
  rather than years
• Apply the same triage to incoming PRs going forward

What I'd need: write access, otherwise the triage just becomes another queue
for you to process.

What stays yours: ownership, final say on anything you want to weigh in on,
and revocation at any time without explanation. Inclusion criteria and the
list's direction stay your call — I'm not proposing to change what the list is.

If write access to someone you haven't worked with is too much for a first
step, triage permission alone would also work: I could label and close but not
merge, and you'd still see every merge decision.

Either way I'll post the PR triage table here regardless — it's useful to you
whether or not you want me involved past that point.
