ANCHOR-NS: no commit to a sourceless anchor; namesake by path word - #570
ANCHOR-NS: don't commit to an anchor with no source definition; pick a namesake by a path word
Stacked on #568 (lane/frame-high-confidence); I will retarget this to main after #568 merges.
What changes
N1 (src/subjectanchor.h): when the route is name-exact but the anchor has no source definition and its words resolve 2 or more definitions in total, the route stops committing to it. It ranks the words instead (subtoken+body, :broad under 3 content words), says so in the route note, and sets low confidence. One definition or none keeps the name-exact route. CLI and MCP share the change.
N4 (src/mention.h): for a bare identifier with 2 to 12 definitions, a task word (other than the name) that is the file stem or parent directory of exactly one definition's file selects that definition for the direct-symbol lift. A word that matches several files selects nothing. Two words matching two different definitions also select nothing. A qualifier, when present, is used first.
Help text gains the N1 clause and the N4 sentence; changelog.d/anchor-ns.md.
Measured (in-sample, 321 --for calls)
3 calls change, with 0 items gained or lost.
kysely-12 (+981 B) and nunjucks-13 (+130 B) were expected (N4 sigs reorder) and grade identically.
ld2-django-02 (+1612 B) was unexpected but is neutral (grades identical). It is logged in the --for noise ledger.
Target rows are on the practice set and are sat separately.
Gates
New test/foranchornscheck.sh: 12 arms fail on the base and all pass on the head. The crash and silent stubs fail all 49 checks; the real binary passes 32.
Mutants are red for both rules.
--quality-delta gating 0: 4 gating rows in mention.h were fixed with a shared helper, with no behaviour change.
docs/COMMANDS.md regenerated; printffmtparitycheck re-pinned; the neighbour and anchor gates pass.
Name-exact routes with multiple test-only definitions now rank matching task words instead of committing to an ambiguous anchor.
A task word that uniquely matches a candidate file’s name or directory can help select among same-named definitions.
Route confidence is low when the selected anchor is not represented by the top-ranked result; route details explain why.
Budget Handling
When a single result exceeds the token budget after optional attributes are removed, the command can return the complete result with its actual token estimate.
Documentation
Updated command help and guides to explain routing confidence, anchor selection, and mention-boost behavior.
…rds; a path word picks one namesake
N1 ANCHOR-TEST-ONLY (src/subjectanchor.h): a name-exact anchor with two or more
definitions, none source-class, no longer commits the route to the first copy
found. The words rank (subtoken+body), route= says "not committed: ranked as
words" and keeps the anchors as a hint; confidence stays low. One definition
(a test-only helper) or none (env var, served by shortkey/lit) stays name-exact.
N4 PATH-WORD-NAMESAKE (src/mention.h): an identifier the task names with
several definitions is lifted at the one whose file stem or parent directory
another task word names. A word placing several, or two words placing two
different ones, choose none.
Gate test/foranchornscheck.sh: red on base (12 arms), green on head.

Walkthrough
The change updates name-exact anchor selection, named-symbol mention disambiguation, and confidence reporting for CLI and MCP for results. It adds route explanations and shared Markdown-row detection. Regression coverage now exercises anchor and confidence cases, and budget-policy tests cover an over-ceiling one-row result.
Routes with multiple unbacked definitions now fall through to word ranking. Anchor keys identify route anchors, and tests cover the fallback plus retained name-exact cases.
When qualifier matching finds no files and bare-name fallback is allowed, a unique task-word match to a candidate file stem or parent directory can select a definition. Tests and help text describe the matching rules and caps.
Ranked-head confidence in CLI and MCP src/lexical.h, src/packtask.h, src/subjectanchor.h, src/verbs_for.h, src/mcpverbs.h, src/serialize.h, test/subjectanchorcheck.sh, changelog.d/frame-high-confidence.md, src/cli.h, docs/COMMANDS.md
For name-exact routes, confidence is downgraded and the route note identifies the emitted head when that head does not match the anchor. The CLI and MCP paths share the Markdown-row ordering decision.
The budget checks use updated probes, require the expected attribute-shedding marker, and verify that an over-ceiling one-row result preserves the row’s identity, signature, and child elements.
Some mixed-definition or repeated-name queries can choose the wrong ranking mode, punctuation and header declarations can disrupt symbol selection, and confidence can describe the wrong result head. Merge risk is bounded, with these edge cases requiring owner awareness or follow-up.

…ycheck B1/B3/C2); the gate's ok() records a failed write
PATH-WORD-NAMESAKE read `Utils` in `Utils.formatDate` (and `Fmt3` in `Wrong.Fmt3.formatDate`) as a separate task word
naming src/utils/ (fmt3.ts), so a qualifier the case-exact proof had declined still chose one namesake at
confidence="high", and the shortkey ladder never ran. A word directly followed by `.` or `::` is a qualifier segment
and no longer counts as a path word; the separate-word reading (`kube-proxy nftables syncProxyRules`) is unchanged.
New foranchornscheck arms: `Nftables.syncProxyRules` and `Nftables::syncProxyRules` choose no namesake (red on
b346487, green here; positive twin: the separate word `nftables`).
foranchornscheck ok() now fails the gate when its PASS line cannot be written (gateexitcheck G1).

…er the shed; ARM F pins the honest over_ceiling floor
Once ANCHOR-NS ranks `rank symbols` as words (its anchor `rank` has only bench/ namesakes), its top row on this repo is
src/mention.h promoteFileSymbolsToSlot with its <doc>, which is over 800 tokens even with every optional attribute shed,
so the page ships whole with over_ceiling="1" (owner rule: the budget serves the answer, never cut it). That is correct
behaviour, so:
- ARM D/E now ask "token estimate", whose one-row floor exceeds 800 before the shed and fits after it (est_tokens 760,
cx ccx next sc shed); ARM E also fails when no attrs_shed="1" is printed, so a re-pick is called for if the query
stops exercising the shed. Mutant (the shed disabled in src/forpage.h): D and E red, F green.
- ARM F pins `rank symbols`: rc 0, over_ceiling="1", est_tokens= its true price (> 800), exactly one row whose
identity, signature text and <doc> equal the 4000-token twin's; only optional attributes may be missing.
- D-F ask from inside the checkout with root ".", so their price does not move with the absolute checkout path.
The shed ladder is unchanged.

… repeated anchor
- PATH-WORD-NAMESAKE (src/mention.h namesakeFileByPathWord): a dot joins a
qualifier only when an identifier follows it, so `... in nftables.` still
names the nftables namesake (`Nftables.syncProxyRules` stays a qualifier).
- The namesake choice is among definitions: a path word that places only a
bodyless prototype (`api` naming api/widget.h) beside definitions elsewhere
chooses nothing, and the bare reading's declaration filter lifts the
definitions. The filter is one helper (dropDeclarationsBesideDefinition)
shared with resolveNamedIdents (behaviour-identical there).
- ANCHOR-TEST-ONLY (src/subjectanchor.h routeAnchorUncommitted): each distinct
anchor name counts once, so a repeated one-definition test helper keeps its
name-exact route.
- test/foranchornscheck.sh: 9 new arms (repeated word x2 spellings x2 arms, sentence
dot x3, prototype word + definition-word twin); 7 red on the previous head
f786e62. The configure_pool arm now reads a ranked <d> row.
