This release includes several bug fixes and a few new features since the latest release (v1.3.1) in June 2024. While more PRs with new features are currently open and will be reviewed, we have to set a feature freeze to deliver what has already been long in the queue.

I am not sure why the Check formatting and check_shell GHA workflows are pending. These are only available on master, and this looks like a GitHub bug to me.
They have both been replaced by the Pre-commit hooks check.
