Background failures, questions, and completions appear as brief colored notices in the top bar without taking application focus. Attention, working, and completed counts stay separate; progress stays quiet, and notices leave room for tab navigation.

• Current attention: Ctrl-f b opens Zellij’s native inbox.
• Recorded events: Ctrl-f B opens searchable history, newest first, with meaningful titles, messages, and colored status glyphs. Internal identifiers, session names, and generated pane labels are hidden. Dates appear only across different days; identical times are omitted.

The preview shows the source pane’s current contents with terminal colors, moves below the list in narrow windows, and toggles with Ctrl-/. Preview and navigation validate the original server and pane process identities. Closed or replaced sources show “Pane unavailable”; Enter visits a matching live source.

Scripts publish into the same flow with zellij-notify send --level warn --title Tests 'Integration tests need attention'. History retains up to 500 events in a private, bounded JSON file with duplicate suppression and atomic writes, without a daemon. Native Zellij owns unresolved attention; history records native transitions while a client is attached to their source session and cannot recover every intermediate transition while all source clients are detached.

Apply with make zellij-status zellij, then start a new session. Existing sessions retain their loaded status plugin until explicitly reloaded.

Manual evidence: The macOS flow passed at fixed widths of 120 and 80 columns, including identifier-free history, colored source previews, and returning to the original running source process. Resizing a live history terminal during checks disrupted input; that remains unresolved, with the cause undetermined between the runtime and test harness.
