What is No DNI?

No DNI is a simple idea. Designed to help you find blogs and communities that have decided to stop sorting people into lists before deciding whether they’re allowed to speak.

What if… we all just talked?

1. We are all people. Capable of having real conversations.
2. We engage with anyone. We don’t care if you ship different things, have different politics, different interests, or different identities. In fact, we won’t ask. It simply does not matter.
3. Nothing else matters.

Q: What if someone I disagree with interacts with my post?

You may disagree with them. That is called a conversation.

Q: What if they are on my DNI list?

This document supersedes it.

Q: What if this makes me feel unsafe?

If seeing an unfamiliar person in your notes genuinely threatens your safety, no document can help with that. The block button exists. Use it. But ask yourself honestly whether “unsafe” is the right word.

Q: Without a DNI, how will people know who I am?

Your posts will tell them.

Q: Isn’t sorting people into categories just good community hygiene?

There is a difference between a bouncer and someone who won’t leave the house without a 40-item checklist of who they’re allowed to meet. One is reasonable, the other is simply tribalism.

Q: But what if I just don’t like someone’s views?

You may block them. That has always been your right. But consider, if you are filtering out everyone who thinks differently from you, you are not curating a safe space. You are building an echo chamber. You will never be challenged, never be wrong, and never grow. The internet shoild not be a mirror.

Q: But my DNI list keeps me safe.

A DNI list is a suggestion. Bad actors do not read suggestions. A genuine predator, stalker, or harasser is not checking your bio before they act. The people who respected your list were never the threat. The block button, content warnings, and platform reporting tools are doing the actual work. Use them. But do not confuse a list of labels with safety. It was never that.

Q: This is clearly made by someone who wants to harass people.

That wasn’t a question. And no, this is made by someone who noticed that we have sorted ourselves into so many categories that we’ve forgotten how to just talk to each other. The DNI list did not create community. It created a hundred smaller ones, each convinced the others are dangerous.

Q: Why don’t you care about my labels?

We care about what you say and what you do. Labels are your business.
