Idle Hours is a literary clock: every few minutes it shows a sentence from a public-domain novel that names the current time, with the time phrase picked out in bold. Behind it is a pipeline that mines Project Gutenberg for phrases like "a quarter past seven", cleans and scores them, and bakes over two thousand quotes into a database ranked for each five-minute slot of the twelve-hour clock. A Raspberry Pi renders the pick for a six-colour eInk panel and runs unattended as a systemd appliance, with a small web UI for curating the corpus.
