[Storage]: Use wrapper File Level Restore class - #6722
Use the shared VMFR wrapper and fixture-managed restore creation.
Remove the local class and helpers, update callers, and move remaining VMFR creation into fixtures.
Centralizes resource behavior in openshift-python-wrapper and keeps setup/teardown separate from test assertions.
File-level restore fixtures and tests now use VirtualMachineFileRestore from ocp_resources. Tests use the resource methods to wait for phases and read restored-file counts. Five fixtures cover additional Linux and Windows restore requests. The minimum openshift-python-wrapper version increases.
Changes: File-level restore tests
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Adopt the shared restore resource pyproject.toml, tests/storage/file_level_restore/utils.py
The minimum wrapper version increases. The local restore class and wait/count helpers are removed. Manual browsing selects the snapshot or PVC factory and passes the matching source name.
Build restore requests in fixtures tests/storage/file_level_restore/conftest.py
Existing fixtures use the shared resource factories and status method. Five new fixtures provide Linux and Windows restore requests for PVC, snapshot, multi-file, ACL, and drive-root cases.
Use restore fixtures in tests tests/storage/file_level_restore/test_file_level_restore.py
Tests use injected restore resources and their status and restored-file-count methods. Existing content, ACL, count, timeout, and cleanup checks remain.
Restores taking four to five minutes can cause false test failures. Restore the previous timeout or accept this bounded risk.

Explanation
All required sections are present in the supplied current PR description. The What this PR does / why we need it: section has meaningful content describing the wrapper migration, helper removal, and fixture changes. The issue, reviewer notes, and jira-ticket sections are also present. The repository template confirms these exact headings at .github/pull_request_template.md:1-10.
Full details: New Test Traceability
Explanation
PASS — The PR adds no new product test functions or methods named test_* under tests/. The diff adds five fixtures only. Existing test methods are modified, not newly added, so this check does not require new traceability lines.
Full details: Manual Std Lifecycle
Explanation
PASS. The PR directly modifies automated restore test methods, and those methods have no @pytest.mark.manual decorator or effective __test__ = False suppression. The two docstring-only STD placeholders remain correctly classified and suppressed: their classes set __test__ = False at lines 665 and 759, and each method directly declares @pytest.mark.manual at lines 669 and 763. No changed file adds another test function or changes module/class suppression.
Full details: Utilities Unit Test Coverage
Explanation
PASS — The pull request changes no utilities/**/*.py file. It changes tests/storage/file_level_restore/utils.py, which is outside the checked utilities/ path, so the utility unit-test update or justification requirement does not apply.

Resolution
Add a corresponding test or manual STD for every listed scenario. Align each changed test's Preconditions:, Steps:, Expected:, fixtures, and assertions with the STP, including metadata checks, VM reachability, manual copy and cleanup, failure injection, security/RBAC checks, filesystem variants, and lifecycle cases. If a scenario is intentionally excluded, document the reason and add a follow-up Jira link for that specific scenario.

CRITICAL: You MUST post an inline review comment on the first changed line of the first file.
The inline comment should contain the full Test Execution Plan (smoke decision, gating decision, and specific affected tests).
Do NOT submit a blocking review event (REQUEST_CHANGES/APPROVE).
Post a single inline PR comment on Files Changed (non-blocking COMMENT flow).
As an expert software testing engineer, analyze all modified files in this PR and create a targeted test execution plan.
You will post an inline review comment with the test execution plan on the first changed file.
If you fail to run or post a comment, retry.
Analysis Requirements:
Examine code changes in each modified file
Identify affected code paths, functions, and classes
Trace test dependencies through imports, shared utilities, fixture inheritance, fixture teardown, and yield from cleanup in conftest
Detect new tests introduced in the PR
Utilities and libs impact (when utilities/ or libs/ changes):
You MUST use shell scripts (rg, git diff) to trace the full impact.
Follow these sub-steps in order:
6a. Identify modified symbols: For each changed file under utilities/ or libs/,
list every modified function or method.
Example: git diff HEAD~1 --unified=0 -- utilities/hco.py | grep '^[+-]def '
6b. Find direct callers: Search tests and conftest for each symbol from 6a.
Example: rg -l 'get_hco_version' tests/
6c. Trace fixture teardown and cleanup: Find fixtures that reach
the modified symbol through yield from or context-manager wrappers.
Example: rg -l 'yield from.*enable_common_boot|def.*enable_common_boot' tests/
6d. Trace same-file callers: In each changed file, find other functions
whose body calls a modified symbol (including code after yield
in @contextmanager helpers).
Example: rg 'get_hco_version|enable_common_boot' utilities/hco.py
6e. Expand transitively: If function A calls modified B, then
tests/fixtures that call A are affected — even when the test body
never imports B directly.
Do NOT limit impact to tests that import the modified symbol only.
Smoke test impact: Intersect the affected set from step 6 with smoke-marked tests.
Run: rg -l '@pytest.mark.smoke' tests/
VERIFY the above command returned actual file paths before concluding False.
Set True if either condition is met:
a smoke-marked file appears in the affected set from 6b-6e, OR
any conftest.py in the smoke test's parent-directory hierarchy (up to repo root)
imports or calls a modified utilities/libs symbol — including autouse fixtures
that depend on modified functions. ALL tests in that directory and below are affected.
Example check: for each smoke_file, scan dirname(smoke_file)/conftest.py,
dirname(dirname(smoke_file))/conftest.py, etc. for modified symbol imports
and autouse fixtures that depend on modified symbols. Additional smoke-test specifics:
Set True ONLY with a verified, traceable dependency path — session-scoped fixtures
or infra-sounding names do NOT automatically imply smoke impact.
Smoke tests depend on py_config['os_login_param'] whenever they create VMs with
default SSH connectivity checks: running_vm(check_ssh_connectivity=True) → vm.login_params. Verify transitive imports in the known smoke-marked files
(tests/storage/cdi_clone/test_clone.py, tests/storage/cdi_upload/test_upload_virtctl.py, tests/virt/cluster/common_templates/rhel/test_rhel_os_support.py, tests/virt/node/general/test_container_disk_vm.py, tests/infrastructure/instance_types/supported_os/test_rhel_os.py, tests/install_upgrade_operators/csv/test_csv.py)
to utilities/storage.py, utilities/hco.py, utilities/infra.py, and utilities/virt.py.
Exceptions raised in pytest_sessionstart block ALL runs (including smoke).
Distinguish a universal session-bootstrap failure from targeted test regression
coverage — do not conflate the two when setting the smoke decision.
Gating test impact: Intersect the affected set from step 6 with gating-marked tests.
Run: rg -l '@pytest.mark.gating' tests/
Set True if a gating-marked file also appears in the affected set from 6b-6e.
Utilities/libs changes often affect gating tests without affecting smoke tests.
Do NOT stop analysis after concluding Run smoke tests: False.
Output rules:
Do NOT include analysis step numbers (1-8) in your visible output.
Your deliverable:
Your inline informational comment will be based on the following requirements:
Test Execution Plan
Run smoke tests: True / False — If True, state the dependency path (test → fixture → changed symbol). True ONLY with a verified path.
Run gating tests: True / False — If True, state the dependency path. True if any gating-marked test is in the affected set.
Affected tests to run(required when utilities/, libs/, or shared conftest changes — list concrete paths even when smoke is False)
Use these formats:
path/to/test_file.py - When the entire test file needs verification
path/to/test_file.py::TestClass::test_method - When specific test(s) needed
path/to/test_file.py::test_function - When specific test(s) needed
-m marker - When a marker covers multiple affected tests (e.g. -m gating only if ALL gating tests in scope need run)
Tag each listed test or group with its marker when not obvious, e.g. (gating) or (smoke)
Real test commands (MANDATORY when changes affect session/runtime code):
When the affected code runs at session/collection time (conftest fixtures, pytest plugins,
config hooks, session-scoped setup) or modifies runtime behavior that unit tests mock away,
you MUST include concrete pytest commands the PR author must run on a real cluster
to verify the change works end-to-end. Include:
A command for the error/fix path (the scenario the PR fixes)
A command for the happy path (regression: the normal case still works)
Use lightweight tests (e.g., --collect-only for startup failures,
a single small test for runtime behavior)
If the PR only changes test logic (not utilities/libs/conftest), the affected test
paths themselves serve as the real test commands — no separate section needed.
Include tests affected directly OR via fixture setup/teardown, yield from cleanup, or transitive utility call chains (caller calls modified helper)
Use a full file path only if ALL tests in that file require verification
Use file path + test name when only specific tests use an affected fixture or utility wrapper (preferred for partial file impact)
If a test marker can cover multiple files/tests, provide the marker
Balance coverage vs over-testing - Keep descriptions minimal
Example: if leaf helper foo() changes, include tests whose fixture teardown calls wrapper bar() where bar() calls foo(), even when the test body only imports an unrelated symbol from the same utilities module
Hardware-Related Checks (SR-IOV, GPU, DPDK):
When PR modifies fixtures for hardware-specific resources:
Collection Safety: Fixtures MUST have existence checks (return None when hardware unavailable)
Test Plan: MUST verify both WITH and WITHOUT hardware:
Run affected tests on cluster WITH hardware
Verify collection succeeds on cluster WITHOUT hardware
CRITICAL WORKFLOW COMPLETION RULES:
When responding to this test execution plan request, you MUST follow these rules EXACTLY:
YOUR ONLY DELIVERABLE: Post one non-blocking inline comment containing the test execution plan on the first changed line.
Use comments[].body for the inline review comment; leave the top-level PR thread body empty.
THEN STOP IMMEDIATELY - Do NOT generate any additional response
FALLBACK ONLY: If inline comment API calls fail after retrying, post as a regular PR comment.
If the /test-plan trigger fails with HTTP 403 due to token scopes, reply in the PR comment thread.
SILENCE = SUCCESS: After successfully submitting the review, your task is complete. No confirmation needed.
ABSOLUTE PROHIBITIONS (violating these creates empty/meaningless reviews):
❌ Do NOT post acknowledgment messages like "Test execution plan posted", "Review posted successfully", "I've successfully posted"
❌ Do NOT mention review IDs, URLs, or confirmation of posting in the PR thread
❌ Do NOT add any follow-up comments after submitting the review
❌ Do NOT reply to confirm task completion
❌ Do NOT explain what you did - just do it and stop
❌ Do NOT use REQUEST_CHANGES for test execution plans; always use the non-blocking COMMENT flow
Remember: The pull request review is visible to users. Additional comments are redundant noise.
CRITICAL — Verification rules for smoke and gating decisions:
- For each True decision, you must have traced a concrete path: test file → fixture → utility function → modified symbol.
- Do NOT assume impact based on scope, file proximity, or infrastructure-sounding names.
Only set True when you trace a concrete path through steps 6a-6e, then 7 or 8.
WRONG: "utilities/hco.py changed → run smoke" (no traced dependency path)
WRONG: "Run smoke tests: False" with no affected-test list when gating tests use the changed utility
RIGHT: "Run smoke tests: False, Run gating tests: True" plus tests/.../test_foo.py::TestBar::test_baz (gating)
RIGHT: "Smoke test X uses fixture Y → wrapper Z → changed function W in utilities/hco.py"

Learning: In the openshift-virtualization-tests repository, when responding to test execution plan requests from openshift-virtualization-qe-bot-3, do NOT use "REQUEST_CHANGES" review type if the PR author has already marked the PR as verified (e.g., with `/verified` command). Test execution plans are informational guides, not blocking requirements. Use COMMENT event for informational test plans, or only REQUEST_CHANGES if there are actual code issues that need to be addressed before merging.

Learning: In the openshift-virtualization-tests repository, when responding to test execution plan requests from openshift-virtualization-qe-bot-3, CodeRabbit must post ONLY an inline review comment on the Files Changed tab and then stop immediately without generating any follow-up comments in the PR discussion thread. No acknowledgment messages, no confirmation of posting, no explanation - silence after posting the inline review equals success. Additional comments create empty/meaningless reviews that clutter the PR.

Learning: In RedHatQE/openshift-virtualization-tests, the CodeRabbit App CAN post inline review comments (succeeded Oct 2026); 403s are intermittent. Always attempt the inline post for test-plan requests; fall back to a chat reply only after a real 403 failure

Learning: In the openshift-virtualization-tests repository, when posting test execution plan inline review comments using GitHub API, the full test execution plan content must go in the `comments[].body` field (which appears on Files Changed tab), NOT in the top-level `body` field (which appears in PR discussion thread). The top-level `body` field should be omitted or left empty to avoid posting redundant comments in the PR discussion thread.

- Line 320: Update the migrated default-timeout waits for successful restores in
the fixture using file_restore.wait_for_status to pass TIMEOUT_5MIN explicitly,
preserving the previous five-minute allowance. Leave the explicit ten-minute
timeout for large-file restores unchanged.

## Strict Rules (MANDATORY)
### Resource clients
- A fixed `apiVersion`/`kind` MUST be fetched through an installed `ocp_resources` class. When `openshift-python-wrapper` has no class for that kind, the ONLY acceptable remedy is contributing the class upstream to `openshift-python-wrapper` and using it. Hand-rolled `Resource`/`NamespacedResource` subclasses created in this repo are NOT an acceptable substitute; the existing ones (`libs/net/netattachdef.py`, `tests/storage/file_level_restore/utils.py`) are legacy, must not be extended, copied, or cited as precedent.

Learning: In integration/functional tests located under the tests/ directory, require assertion failure messages using the pattern: assert condition, "descriptive message". For unit tests under utilities/unittests/, rely on pytest's assertion introspection and descriptive test names; explicit failure messages are not required. This guidance helps maintain clear diagnostics for integration tests while keeping unit tests concise and leveraging pytest's built-in introspection.
The STP defines PVC and VolumeSnapshot sources for both Linux and Windows restore, with automatic/manual modes. The wrapper migration should preserve both factory paths and lifecycle behavior. [::RedHatQE/openshift-virtualization-tests-design-docs::stps/sig-storage/VIRTSTRAT-480_file_level_restore.md:28-34]
Linux PVC restore must preserve file integrity, including size, ownership, and permissions. [::RedHatQE/openshift-virtualization-tests-design-docs::stps/sig-storage/VIRTSTRAT-480_file_level_restore.md:393-395]
Windows coverage explicitly requires ACL/NTFS metadata preservation for both PVC and VolumeSnapshot restores. [::RedHatQE/openshift-virtualization-tests-design-docs::stps/sig-storage/VIRTSTRAT-480_file_level_restore.md:437-443]
Windows drive-root restoration is a P0 scenario, matching the new drive-root snapshot fixture. [::RedHatQE/openshift-virtualization-tests-design-docs::stps/sig-storage/VIRTSTRAT-480_file_level_restore.md:445-447]
Restore status and phase transitions are part of the API contract; successful and failed paths must expose phase/status information. [::RedHatQE/openshift-virtualization-tests-design-docs::stps/sig-storage/VIRTSTRAT-480_file_level_restore.md:125-126] [::RedHatQE/openshift-virtualization-tests-design-docs::stps/sig-storage/VIRTSTRAT-480_file_level_restore.md:137-140]
Temporary-resource cleanup and VM availability during snapshot restore are explicit acceptance requirements, so fixture teardown and status waiting should not bypass those assertions. [::RedHatQE/openshift-virtualization-tests-design-docs::stps/sig-storage/VIRTSTRAT-480_file_level_restore.md:68-76] [::RedHatQE/openshift-virtualization-tests-design-docs::stps/sig-storage/VIRTSTRAT-480_file_level_restore.md:397-399]
@coderabbitai update sticky: we are not adding or removing any scenarios, we are just using a different resource class and therefore refactoring the test code
@ema-aka-young Understood. PR #6722 refactors the existing tests to use the shared VirtualMachineFileRestore resource class. It does not add or remove scenarios.
I’ll regenerate the sticky summary with that scope. Regression review should focus on preserving fixture ordering, assertions, status waits, and cleanup—not expanding scenario coverage.
The summary update does not rerun or clear the saved blocking STP check. That check needs re-evaluation against the refactor-only scope.

What this PR does / why we need it:
Use the shared VMFR wrapper and fixture-managed restore creation.
Remove the local class and helpers, update callers, and move remaining VMFR creation into fixtures.
Centralizes resource behavior in openshift-python-wrapper and keeps setup/teardown separate from test assertions.
Which issue(s) this PR fixes:
Special notes for reviewer:
Requires a wrapper release containing the new VMFR helpers
