Summary

• expose release and system from Maven compilation contexts
• resolve the actual Maven compiler JDK from forked executables, compiler toolchains, and toolchains-plugin selections
• retain javac semantics by projecting --release instead of --system for release compilations
• expose the Gradle compiler system image when no release is configured
• support Maven 3.0.3 through 3.10.0 and Maven 4.0.0-rc-5 without instantiating compiler mojos

With JDK 8, 11, and 17 build-tool fixtures plus the local Maven distribution matrix:
