breath: FoxBreatheLabeler as the default AP detector (re-opens #8) - #9
Conversation
The FBL detector now follows the bundle's precision (full -> f16, q4 -> q4_0) instead of carrying both, so a q4 download is q4 end to end. The GUI bundle ships the Q4_0 aligner, so it ships the Q4_0 detector.
Not two equal architectures: the bundle ships both models and the default is FBL. The GUI's autodetect now prefers an FBL file instead of taking whichever the directory lists first, and the usage guide leads with FBL and describes BreathLab as the fallback (it adds an SP head, which the aligner drops anyway).

When FBL is present, autodetection selects it before BreathLab. The quick start currently presents BreathLab as the bundle’s breath model and does not identify FBL. Describe FBL as the default detector and BreathLab as an alternative.

Use the bundle-selected FBL filename in the CLI README.
For a full bundle, Line 211 sets FBL to breath-fbl-f16.gguf, and Line 233 copies only that file. This README always tells users to pass breath-fbl-q4_0.gguf, which is absent from full bundles. Interpolate $FBL in the README filename and command.

Exclude detector models from aligner selection.
If both FBL and BreathLab files are present, breath excludes only the detector selected by the earlier logic. ggufs.find(p => p !== breath) can select the other detector as the aligner when it appears before the real aligner. Filter all recognized breath-detector files from the aligner candidates.

- the CLI bundle README hard-coded breath-fbl-q4_0.gguf, which a full bundle does not contain; interpolate $FBL instead - the GUI bundle README now names FBL as the default detector and BreathLab as the alternative - autodetect kept only the *chosen* detector out of the aligner pick, so a bundle with both detectors could hand the other one to the aligner; exclude every recognised detector - list the FBL weights in both package inventories

FBL is the default detector, BreathLab the alternative
The bundles ship both, and FBL is the one to run:
models/breath-fbl-q4_0.gguf;whichever the directory lists first;
BreathLab stays because it is a different operating point (SP head, 100 fps),
not because it is preferred.
Why FBL
Benchmarked on 200 hanser files (AP event / frame F1, 200 ms onset collar):
HFA scores higher but its head consumes HuBERT features (traced:
encoder/units_aligned<-hubert/encoder/layers.11), so it would mean portinga 12-layer HuBERT. FBL is self-contained (raw waveform -> conformer) and is
what can actually land. EP is dropped: no model's EP head fires on this dataset
(FBL 15 s over 200 files, BreathLab v6 ~0, HFA 3.6 s).
What is in the diff
scripts/convert_fbl_to_gguf.py— upstream publishes a PyTorch checkpoint,not an ONNX, and its exporter only covers the 1-class AP model. Reads
config.yaml+model.ckpt, folds each conform_conv's BatchNorm1d into aper-channel scale/shift (ggml has no variance op), writes the framing and
decoding parameters alongside the tensors.
--dtype f16|f32|q8_0|q4_0.src/breath/fbl_net.{h,cpp}— the CVNT graph: framing front end,inlinear,six conformer blocks,
final_norm, one AP logit, sigmoid.src/breath/breath.cpp— dispatch onbreath.model_kind; FBL frames the rawwaveform (pad 71, hop 882 -> 50 fps) and decodes with its own hysteresis
(threshold 0.4, 5-frame gap, 4-frame minimum).
tests/test_fbl_net.cpp+scripts/make_fbl_golden.py— golden vs theexported ONNX: max error 7e-5, mean 1e-5.
scripts/eval_fbl_quant.py— dequantizes a GGUF back into the reference torchmodel, so quality numbers do not depend on the C++ port.
release.yml— converts and ships the weights, one precision per bundle(full -> f16, q4 -> q4_0), matching the aligner's precision.
Quantization
Only the 2-D matmul weights are quantized; norms, biases and the depthwise
kernel stay F32. Q4_0 is 38% of F16 with identical AP, so it is the default.
Verification
breathe hanser_0_0.wav -m fbl-q4_0.gguf-> 2 AP events, matchingBreathLab v5's 2 on the same clip; 72 ms on Vulkan.
TIFA_TEST_FBL_GGUF).Also pending
PR #5 (BreathLab v6 + EP): with EP dropped and v6 clearly worse on AP, it looks
like a close rather than a merge.
