Closes #10.

What it does

The stock TIFA config declares japanese-mecab -- upstream's MeCab + UniDic
morphological analysis. This PR makes that id do what upstream does, and
keeps it usable when the dictionary is not installed:

  1. Kana out of the box (no dictionary) -- the id is served by the kana
    converter (the dict_path / double_written_sokuon kwargs are shared), so
    kana lyrics work with -l ja on the stock model. A warning names what is
    missing and how to get it.
  2. Kanji with the dictionary -- MeCab segments the lyrics, UniDic's pron
    column supplies whole-word kana readings, and the existing kana converter
    turns those into phonemes. Every reading candidate survives to the
    aligner; a kanji word without a reading fails per file instead of silently
    producing wrong phonemes.

The dictionary asset

The compiled UniDic dictionary (unidic-lite) is ~260 MB extracted -- far too
big for the per-platform bundles. It ships as its own release asset,
unidic-lite-dicdir.zip (~49 MB):

  • produced by scripts/package_unidic.py in the release workflow,
  • unpacked to models/unidic/ (probed automatically; the converter's
    unidic_dir kwarg overrides),
  • the GUI installs it with one click (Extras row in the environment
    panel, with download progress).

Without it nothing regresses: kana keeps working, kanji fails with an
actionable message.

Implementation notes

  • cmake/Mecab.cmake: MeCab pinned by URL+SHA (master 61b90ba6), tokenizer
    subset only (no training tools, no iconv -- UTF-8 to UTF-8 is a no-op). Not
    gated on TIFA_GGML_BUILD_MODEL, so the ggml-free tifa_ggml_g2p library
    carries the converter too; TIFA_GGML_MECAB=OFF opts out. A configure-time
    sentinel fails loudly when the portability patch is missing.
  • cmake/patches/mecab-portability.patch (+ .md): static-lib dllimport
    guard, MSVC WPATH_FORCE (upstream's MSVC path cannot compile), __stdcall,
    std::binary_function removal (C++17).
  • src/g2p/mecab_g2p.{h,cpp}: RAII tagger wrapper mirroring fugashi --
    segment() and N-best pronunciations() keeping only single-morpheme
    parses (upstream semantics); pron is UniDic feature field 9.
  • JapaneseMecabConverter in pipeline.cpp: kana-digraph re-join, per-pron
    reading with the cross-product of kana-unit dictionary alternatives,
    double_written_sokuon merge; claims kana+kanji runs, never ASCII
    (upstream behaviour).
  • MeCab is BSD-3, UniDic is BSD/GPL/LGPL -- THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md added.

Verification

  • Kanji 可愛いから好きになったなんて, -l ja, stock model + dictionary:
    1 ok, 25 phones, texts tier keeps the kanji surfaces
    (可愛い/から/好き/に/なっ/た/なんて), phones
    k a w a i | k a r a | s u k i | n i | n a cl | t a | n a N t e
    (long vowel dropped per upstream, 促音→cl, ん→N).
  • No dictionary (isolated --dict-dir): warning + kana fallback, 26 phones --
    identical to the previous build.
  • tests/test_g2p_japanese.cpp: 4 tests (fallback ungated; kanji, reading
    candidates and sokuon merge gated on TIFA_TEST_UNIDIC_DIR). Full suite:
    33 passed, 2 env-skipped.
  • UI smoke 37/37; e2e unchanged vs baseline (18/19 locally -- the one
    pre-existing 2PASS failure reproduces with this branch stashed).

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to 5f61d

Normal dictionary installation remains usable, but an oversized download could exhaust memory, and an installation error is quickly replaced by a generic status. These are bounded follow-up risks rather than an established blocker for the expected archive.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to 5f61d

The optional dictionary installer adds a new download and filesystem-write boundary. Its fixed download source, installation guard, and kana fallback limit exposure, but archive processing lacks resource bounds and installation is not atomic. No exploitable path traversal has been established.

Retained concerns

  • Low · security · inferred: The new installer buffers the complete response and parses and extracts the archive in the desktop main process without download or expanded-size limits. An oversized release response could exhaust memory or disk and impair the application beyond the dictionary operation. The ten-minute timeout bounds elapsed download time, not resource consumption; control of the fixed release content would be required, and failure with the normal asset has not been demonstrated.
Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — Per installation, the sensitive outcomes are resource consumption in the desktop main process and writes beneath the selected model base with the application's filesystem authority. Compromise of the shared artifact source could reach multiple users who install it. The evidence does not establish tenant crossover, administrative privilege gain, or arbitrary code execution.

Security Findings and Attack Paths

  • observed — The supplied path-traversal candidate remains deferred, not verified. The producer rejects POSIX parent components but does not interpret backslashes as separators. Earlier inspections report no triggering members in the configured source distribution and dependency-level confinement to the extraction base; those observations counter an assertion of arbitrary filesystem escape, but the dependency source and published asset were not freshly inspected.
  • inferred — The supported resource-exhaustion path is oversized content from the fixed release endpoint, followed by unrestricted buffering and archive extraction. It requires influence over delivered release content; no caller-controlled URL or demonstrated failure of the normal dictionary asset was established.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Dictionary bytes cross from the release distribution channel into a main-process filesystem writer, then into the native MeCab loader. Controls include a fixed HTTPS URL, regular-member selection and POSIX traversal rejection during packaging, required sys.dic presence, an installation guard, and error-to-kana fallback. These controls do not constitute complete artifact identity or atomic-install validation.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — The installer captures its destination before downloading, rejects overlapping starts within one process, reports extraction errors through the IPC wrapper, and releases the guard on failure. Failed extraction may nevertheless leave live files, and a surviving sys.dic can prevent repair through the same operation.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Bound downloaded bytes, entry counts, and expanded size before consuming the archive. Canonicalize both separator styles and require every destination to remain inside the intended unidic subtree rather than relying solely on a prefix.
  • proposed — Publish only successfully completed ZIPs, validate a complete dictionary manifest in a staging directory, and promote it atomically. Bind installation to an expected artifact identity and provide cleanup or repair for interrupted installs; use cross-process ownership if simultaneous application instances must be supported.

Japanese was unreachable out of the box: the stock TIFA config declares
japanese-mecab, which needs MeCab + UniDic and is deliberately skipped here, and
nothing ever declared japanese-kana -- so no Japanese converter registered at all
and -l ja failed on kana as well as kanji (issue #10).

The mecab entry already carries exactly what the kana converter wants
(dict_path, double_written_sokuon), so the kana converter now serves that id too,
with a warning that says what it is doing and that kanji needs a real analyzer.

Verified: a.lab = かわいいからすきになったなんて with -l ja now aligns (26 phones)
where it previously failed with "Unknown phonemes ['か']". Kanji still needs a
kana transcription, which the warning and the usage guide now say.

KakaruHayate force-pushed the fix/japanese-kana-via-mecab-id branch from 7c3df63 to 064cbf8 Compare October 4, 2026 07:28
Following upstream (g2pflow), `japanese-mecab` now really is a MeCab
converter: the fetched MeCab tokenizer subset (BSD, no iconv, no training
tools) segments the lyrics and UniDic's `pron` column supplies whole-word
kana readings, which flow through the existing kana converter; every
reading candidate is kept for the aligner. Without a UniDic dictionary
the id still falls back to the kana converter, so kana lyrics keep working
out of the box (the previous behaviour of this branch).

- cmake/Mecab.cmake: FetchContent pin + portability patch + configure-time
  sentinel; not gated on TIFA_GGML_BUILD_MODEL, so the ggml-free g2p
  library carries the converter too (TIFA_GGML_MECAB=OFF opts out)
- cmake/patches/mecab-portability.patch: static-lib attributes, MSVC
  WPATH_FORCE, __stdcall, std::binary_function removal (+ .md)
- src/g2p/mecab_g2p: RAII tagger wrapper (segment + nbest single-morpheme
  pronunciations), mirroring upstream's fugashi usage
- pipeline.cpp: JapaneseMecabConverter (kana digraph re-join, per-pron
  reading product, sokuon merge) plus the `unidic_dir` kwarg and
  conventional-path probing with a warn-and-fallback when the dictionary
  is absent
- the ~49 MB unidic-lite dictionary ships as its own release asset
  (scripts/package_unidic.py); it never goes into the per-platform bundles
- tests/test_g2p_japanese.cpp: fallback path ungated, MeCab path gated on
  TIFA_TEST_UNIDIC_DIR
- ui: an Extras row in the environment panel - one-click download and
  install of the dictionary next to the model, with progress
- docs + THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md (MeCab BSD, UniDic BSD)

Verified end to end: kanji 可愛いから好きになったなんて -> 25 phones with
kanji surfaces preserved in the texts tier; kana + no-dictionary fallback
behaves exactly like the previous build; gtest 33 passed / 2 env-skipped;
UI smoke 37/37.

Validate archive member names and handle extractfile returning None.

The script writes any member.name suffix after /dicdir/ into the zip. A name such as x/dicdir/../../evil would create a zip entry with .. segments. The source is the pinned PyPI sdist, so the risk is low. A one-line guard is cheap and makes the script safe if the input changes.

Proposed fix

🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Bound the download size and verify the archive before extraction.

The code buffers the whole response in memory with no size limit or timeout. A stalled connection hangs the install, and unidicInstalling stays true until the fetch settles. The code also calls zip.extractAllTo(base, true) on all entries after checking only for unidic/sys.dic. adm-zip 0.5.x rejects path traversal in entries, but the code does not restrict extraction to the unidic/ prefix. Add an AbortSignal.timeout(...) to fetch and extract only entries that start with unidic/.

CI (linux/macos jobs):
  * MeCab guards every POSIX include behind configure macros it normally
    gets from config.h; without them mmap.h fails (O_RDONLY, open, fstat,
    close undeclared) and utils.h falls back to an LP64-wrong uint32_t
    typedef. cmake/Mecab.cmake now defines the standard HAVE_* set for
    non-Windows plus HAVE_MMAP (sys.dic stays mapped read-only instead of
    read() into a ~190 MB heap buffer) and HAVE_STDINT_H everywhere.

Findings:
  * src/g2p/mecab_g2p.cpp: capture lattice->what() before deleteLattice --
    the old error path read the message through a freed lattice.
  * scripts/package_unidic.py: reject empty/.. dicdir member names and
    handle extractfile() returning None before reading.
  * release.yml: locate the downloaded sdist via a shell glob with an
    existence check instead of ls|grep, and create dist-unidic before the
    flatten find so a missing optional artifact cannot fail the publish.
  * README/README_CN: state in both package overviews that the Japanese
    kanji dictionary is the separate unidic-lite-dicdir asset (GUI
    one-click), not part of the bundles.
  * tests/test_g2p_japanese.cpp: include <cstdlib> for std::getenv.
  * ui/main.js: modelsBaseDir() now mirrors the CLI's dict_dir resolution
    (<model dir>/dicts when present) so the dictionary lands where
    find_unidic_dir() probes; the fetch got an AbortSignal timeout and the
    install extracts only the unidic/ subtree instead of extractAllTo.
  * ui/renderer/app.js: the model picker refreshes the extras row (the
    dictionary location follows the model), and installUnidic re-enables
    the button via try/finally even when the IPC call rejects.

Verified: MSVC rebuild green, Japanese tests 4/4, kanji e2e unchanged
(25 phones, kanji surfaces in the texts tier), UI smoke 37/37.
…atch

Current clang makes the C++17 `register` diagnostic error-severity, and
`-w` cannot downgrade it, so both macOS Metal jobs failed while Linux and
Windows compiled fine. The patch now strips the keyword from darts.h,
viterbi.cpp and char_property.h (7 files total); it is meaningless in
C++17 anyway.

Note for future configure failures of this kind: a half-patched
_deps/mecab-src (older patch) makes the new patch fail both the forward
and the reverse check -- delete _deps/mecab-* and re-configure.
When the CI cache restores a _deps/mecab-src that was patched by an older
mecab-portability.patch, the current patch fails both the forward and the
reverse check and the configure dies (linux-x64-vulkan and windows-x64-*
this round; the macOS jobs that exposed the register problem last round
were the same mechanism going the other way). Mecab.cmake now detects
the half-patched state -- MECAB_STATIC_LIB present but darts.h untouched
-- wipes the fetched tree and re-populates before applying, so a stale
cache costs one 47 MB re-download instead of a red configure.
CMP0169 (CMake 4.x on the runners) forbids calling FetchContent_Populate
twice for one content name, so the self-heal from the previous commit died
with "Content mecab already populated" on exactly the runners it was meant
to fix. The check now inspects the source tree by its deterministic path
(_deps/mecab-src) before the single populate call and removes the tree and
its stamps when it carries an outdated patch, so the populate below
re-downloads it.  Simulated the stale-cache state locally: re-fetching +
fresh patch apply + green build.

Path Traversal

Reachability: External
Exploitability: Difficult
CWE: CWE-22 — Improper Limitation of a Pathname to a Restricted Directory ('Path Traversal')

⚠️ Unverified finding
Verification did not complete.

Reject backslash-separated traversal in dictionary members.

If an sdist contains dicdir/x\..\..\model.gguf, PurePosixPath(name).parts does not identify either .. component. The script can package the member as unidic/x\..\..\model.gguf. During installation, adm-zip normalizes the backslashes and can overwrite model.gguf outside unidic/. Reject both separator forms before writing the ZIP. Confirm that the release workflow publishes this script’s output as the asset used by extras:install-unidic. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Keep the failure status when refreshing UniDic state.

When an install has ended and UniDic is still absent, refreshExtras() replaces the failure status with the generic not-installed status. The “an install is already running” response is different: refresh returns while installing is true, and a progress event can update the row. Both failure branches already log the specific error. Preserve the failure status while updating button availability, but show the installed status if refresh finds the dictionary.

   const r = await api.extrasStatus();

+    if (!preserveFailure) setStatus('unidic-status', 'unidicDot', '日语词典:状态未知', 'bad');
     return;
   }
   if (r.installing) return; // 进度回调在更新这一行
   if (r.unidicInstalled) {
