The previous codebase was a set of one-shot scripts bound to an old
DiffSinger dataset layout, with the encoder training code already lost.
This replaces everything except three load-bearing pieces: the clustering
algorithms, the VoiceEncoder definition, and the emotion model definition.

Core

  • Input is now any directory: audio is discovered recursively and no
    dataset layout is assumed.
  • Clustering algorithms are unchanged; p_pruning is vectorised (bit-identical,
verified against a verbatim copy of the old implementation), max_num_spks is
no longer hard-coded to 14, and --mer_cosine is actually wired up instead of
    being accepted and dropped.
  • An optional sparse eigensolver is available behind eigen_solver="sparse",
opt-in and gated by a partition-agreement test rather than asserted equal.
  • Embedding extraction batches partial utterances instead of running one
utterance per forward pass, decodes in parallel, and caches per file.
  • Cluster editing (reassign, merge, rename, split, undo/redo) is pure and
testable, shared by the CLI and the web UI.

Dependencies

  • Resemblyzer is no longer a package; the parts actually used are inlined with
attribution, and its upstream weight is registered as a speaker model.
  • transformers is gone entirely. The emotion model's wav2vec2 trunk is
implemented in-tree against the real checkpoint, and weights are read from
    safetensors without unpickling.

Weights

  • Weights are no longer committed. models/registry.json records provenance,
step counts (the previously shipped file claimed 1570000 but its own step
counter reads 165000), hashes and licence notes; a better checkpoint that an
ordinary-looking commit had overwritten is recoverable from the recorded
    blob and is the default.
  • Downloads fall back to a hub mirror and remember the host that worked.

Web UI

  • One process, one port: API, SSE progress, range-capable audio streaming by
opaque token, and the built frontend. Points are auditionable on click and
their cluster assignment is editable, with undo/redo.

Tests: 168 passed, 1 skipped, including an equivalence suite that pins the
rewritten clustering against the original and the in-tree wav2vec2 against the
checkpoint's parameter naming.

Docs, CI and packaging (pyproject.toml with optional extras) are included.

The previous codebase was a set of one-shot scripts bound to an old
DiffSinger dataset layout, with the encoder training code already lost.
This replaces everything except three load-bearing pieces: the clustering
algorithms, the VoiceEncoder definition, and the emotion model definition.

Core
- Input is now any directory: audio is discovered recursively and no
  dataset layout is assumed.
- Clustering algorithms are unchanged; p_pruning is vectorised (bit-identical,
verified against a verbatim copy of the old implementation), max_num_spks is
no longer hard-coded to 14, and --mer_cosine is actually wired up instead of
  being accepted and dropped.
- An optional sparse eigensolver is available behind eigen_solver="sparse",
opt-in and gated by a partition-agreement test rather than asserted equal.
- Embedding extraction batches partial utterances instead of running one
utterance per forward pass, decodes in parallel, and caches per file.
- Cluster editing (reassign, merge, rename, split, undo/redo) is pure and
testable, shared by the CLI and the web UI.

Dependencies
- Resemblyzer is no longer a package; the parts actually used are inlined with
attribution, and its upstream weight is registered as a speaker model.
- transformers is gone entirely. The emotion model's wav2vec2 trunk is
implemented in-tree against the real checkpoint, and weights are read from
  safetensors without unpickling.

Weights
- Weights are no longer committed. models/registry.json records provenance,
step counts (the previously shipped file claimed 1570000 but its own step
counter reads 165000), hashes and licence notes; a better checkpoint that an
ordinary-looking commit had overwritten is recoverable from the recorded
  blob and is the default.
- Downloads fall back to a hub mirror and remember the host that worked.

Web UI
- One process, one port: API, SSE progress, range-capable audio streaming by
opaque token, and the built frontend.

The registry now carries only technical fields (id, file, purpose, step,
sha256, urls, source blob). Third-party code attribution in NOTICE is
unchanged, as those licences require it.
Two real voicebank names (ahs-moka, an-xiao-v2) appeared as examples in
docs/training.md and tests/test_training.py. Replaced with generic ones.

The two encoder weights are now committed in pretrain/ (~17 MB each)
instead of relying on release downloads that were never published.
The registry records their provenance (git blob id + SHA-256) so the
recovery from history remains verifiable. The emotion model is still
downloaded on demand (630 MB, too large for git).

Reject an empty prompt value before renaming or merging.

window.prompt returns '' if the user clears the field and confirms. Number('') is 0, and Number.isInteger(0) is true. The Rename action then renumbers the cluster to 0, and the Merge action merges it into cluster 0. Both mutations look accidental to the user.

Suffix byte ranges return the wrong bytes.

For Range: bytes=-500, start_s is empty and end_s is "500". The parser then serves bytes 0-500 instead of the last 500 bytes, and reports a wrong Content-Range. Some players and download managers use suffix ranges, so audio playback receives incorrect data.

compact merges the noise label into cluster 0.

np.unique includes -1, so mapping sends -1 to 0. remove_cluster documents -1 as dropped noise that compact and export understand, and export_clusters writes -1 into noise/. After compact, those points land in 000/ together with a real cluster. Keep -1 out of the renumbering.

_common_prefix returns the file itself for a single path.

With one path, every element of zip(*parts) has one distinct value, so shared covers the whole path including the filename. dataset_from_paths then sets base to that file, and path.relative_to(base) returns ., so the item key becomes ".". That key feeds the embedding cache and the key comparison in project_embeddings. embed_paths with a single file hits this.

The projection cache key does not identify the embeddings.

digest covers the method, kwargs and matrix shape only, and the hit check compares the key list. Keys are relative paths, so they stay the same when a file is edited in place. After the embeddings are recomputed, project_embeddings returns the previous coordinates for the new embeddings, and the WebUI shows points at stale positions.

Include the embedding identity in the digest, for example a hash of X or the weights_id plus the item fingerprints.

Resume ignores the steps already completed.

train_sampler.batches(config.max_steps) always yields max_steps batches. With start=start_step + 1 the loop therefore trains max_steps additional steps. _cache_digest includes config.encoder and runner.weights_key, but _EncoderRunner._emotion adds only +emotion. It does not include EmotionEncoder.embedding_dim, which comes from config.json. The emotion model is downloaded from the mutable main revision, and fetch_emotion_model reuses existing files without updating the cache identity.

A cache created with a different emotion-model dimension can therefore load through EmbeddingCache._load, because dim=None disables the check. lookup can return those rows as if they matched the current encoder. If new rows use the current dimension, flush() can fail when np.stack(self._rows) combines vectors with different widths.

Pass the effective dimension to EmbeddingCache, or include it in _cache_digest. Do not rely on the current digest to detect dimension changes.

The event log and the task map grow without bound.

_notify appends one dict per progress callback, and TaskManager never removes finished tasks. progress_fn is called for every chunk and stage of an embedding run, so a large dataset accumulates thousands of retained event dicts per task, and every run adds another permanent entry to _tasks and _cancel. A long-lived serve process keeps growing.

Cap the event log and evict completed tasks.

Vectorize the minor-cluster reassignment.

The loop calls cosine_similarity once per point and iterates over every label in Python. - embed.py: rename _emotion attr to _emotion_enc — the instance attribute
shadowed the method of the same name, so every emotion/mix path raised
TypeError instead of loading the encoder (critical)
- api.ts: watchTask onerror now emits a terminal event so the UI un-blocks
on stream disconnect instead of staying busy forever
- reduce.py: t-SNE perplexity floor lowered from 5.0 to 2.0 so datasets
with 3–5 samples don't trip the perplexity < n_samples assertion
- modelzoo.py: Range-ignored detection now checks HTTP status (200 vs 206)
instead of a Content-Length comparison that could never fire
- voice_encoder.py / wav2vec2.py: try weights_only=True first, fall back
with a warning — avoids pickle deserialization of untrusted checkpoints
- prepare_release.py: --check returns exit 1 on missing or mismatched
assets instead of always returning 0
- pyproject.toml + src/colorsplitter/data/: package the registry for
wheel installs; default_registry_path() checks the package copy
