The idea came from a simple Android feature request:
Tap the clock in the status bar to open the Clock app.
Many users have wanted this kind of shortcut because it makes the Clock app accessible with a single tap.
Tapbar takes that idea further.
You are not limited to the Clock app or even the status bar. You can choose any app and position the tappable area wherever you want on the screen.
Since Tapbar isn't published on the Play Store, Android may block or flag it when installing. Here's how to get it running:
1. If your phone shows "Restricted setting" when enabling permissions Newer Android versions block permission toggles for sideloaded apps by default. To fix this:
- Go to App info
- Tap the three-dot menu (top right) and select Allow restricted settings
- Then enable the required Accessibility and Overlay permissions from Tapbar's settings screen
2. If Play Protect blocks the install Play Protect may flag Tapbar since it uses Accessibility and Overlay permissions to work. To install anyway:
- Open the Play Store, tap your profile icon (top right)
- Tap Play Protect, then tap the Settings gear icon
- Turn off Scan apps with Play Protect and Improve harmful app detection
- Install Tapbar, then you can turn these back on
Tapbar is designed to be simple and private.
