Starting a fresh chat between stages is fine. Spec Kit carries the work forward in the feature artifacts (
I wouldn't prescribe one model per stage as a Spec Kit rule. Pick a model that reliably follows the commands and can read the relevant artifacts; spend more attention on reviewing References: quickstart/workflow, agent-context extension. |

A fresh session per stage is fine, as mnriem says above. If you want that without doing it by hand, and with a different model per stage, run the stages as a workflow. steps:
- id: plan
command: speckit.plan
integration: claude
model: "opus"
- id: tasks
command: speckit.tasks
integration: claude
model: "sonnet"With a stub AI disclosure: researched and drafted with Claude Code (Claude Sonnet 5.5, reviewed with Claude Opus 5.5; reasoning effort max). The agent ran the commands above on my machine; I read the output and the wording before posting. |

There is optional hook called /speckit-agent-context-update which compressess context between stages specify, plan, tasks...
But i prefer to clear context and start new session during stages so safe my tokens)
So, what is the prefferred way ?
Off-topic question: good models set for speckit stages?
