Observed during 0.24.0 release validation on 2026-09-30. The live local MCP
smoke completed its initial Research JSON request and URL follow-up, then
failed the text follow-up. A separate local MCP request for
npm:express, "Where is router dispatch implemented?", returned
TIMEOUT with "Research timed out." The service maps that exact message from
HTTP 504; the client request timeout has a different message.
The hosted Research API owns the failed operation. Investigate its execution and HTTP timeout boundaries, then verify the initial request and both thread follow-ups through local MCP. The root cause is unverified; no client retry or timeout workaround is proposed. This requires backend investigation outside this CLI worktree. Earlier release validation also stalled in experimental Research, so the evidence does not establish a new 0.24.0 regression. Stable agent evals exclude this experimental tool.
On 2026-10-05, authenticated dev MCP stable smoke passed; the experimental Research initial JSON succeeded in 107.1s, then its URL-source thread follow-up failed the expected-success assertion after 200.4s. The assertion did not expose the underlying error code, so this is additional Research investigation evidence, not a confirmed diagnosis or regression in indexing metadata. No client timeout or retry workaround was added.
Authenticated dev CLI/MCP checks on 2026-10-05 verified the normal pending read/list estimate and native retry messages. Two edge transitions remain:
- A read of
github:sqlalchemy/sqlalchemy@rel_2_0_0withwait_timeout_ms: 1returnedTIMEOUT, retryable, and no indexing metadata. Its backend message was "Repository preparation exceeded waitTimeoutMs before an indexing target was available." The CLI cannot infer that indexing has started or invent an estimate. Backend target preparation owns the deadline classification and available metadata; inspect that path before changing the client contract. - Bounded readable results for rel_2_0_0 and rel_2_0_1 briefly had provisional
target resolution and empty
indexingEstimates; a later rel_2_0_0 read was current. Verify whether work was still active when these states were captured or whether resolution and timing observed different readiness stages. Do not infer an estimate or remaining ETA from provisional resolution alone.
The existing provisional provenance footer still uses internal field labels. Resolve the state semantics before redesigning that footer around preparation status. This requires backend investigation outside this CLI lane; no backend edits, extra polling or inferred timing were introduced.
The user accepted the 2026-10-06 production audit for GA and prefers adjustment when issues appear. These are retained findings, not additional release gates; see target resolution for audit scope.
- Backend identity/admission: docs.rs and Cloudflare standalone sites may be absent, Swift kind preference stays soft, and Emacs binding candidates do not establish GNU Emacs core identity on unsupported Savannah. Future fixes should reproduce the affected input, preserve unrelated package matches, and return the requested supported identity or honest uncertainty without unrelated-site substitution. Provider/vendor coverage expansion requires a product decision.
- Pydantic site refresh: usable stale docs and emitted read actions succeeded, while one status follow-up remained INDEXING at about 80.7 seconds. Completion was not verified; this is not proof of a stuck refresh. Investigate backend refresh state if reported again, and verify completion/current freshness with readable results. No client timer workaround or repeated polling is proposed.
Docker MEDIUM SDK resolution without a kind preference is explicitly accepted; repository-preferred Docker Engine remains HIGH Moby. No new ranking change or coverage requirement is inferred from GA promotion.
During 0.33.0 release validation on 2026-10-20, the production CLI skill eval
reported repository-provider timeouts while resolving lp:software-properties
at 02bfa5ae3026843835e540bc507a517863e39c64 and
lp:ubuntu/+source/hello at c80e07d07e4ea27e0847ed731da7138b9e1df5d0.
Three list calls and two search calls failed. Other searches acquired canonical
owners, and five canonical source reads succeeded; the eval completed with a
cited answer. This is tool-use evidence, not an independently graded quality
result.
A subsequent bounded comparison through the built Node CLI passed both short
and canonical list targets: short inputs completed in 1.5 seconds each and
canonical inputs in 1.2 seconds each. The failure is intermittent; this check
does not establish its root cause or recovery mechanism. The backend's provider
resolution path owns shortcut acquisition. Inspect its provider calls and
request deadlines using the failed eval time window (09:02:57-09:03:43 UTC)
before changing client behavior. No CLI retry layer or caller constraint was
introduced. Backend investigation is outside this release-preparation worktree.
Local evidence is retained under .agent-eval/release-0.33.0-launchpad-skills
and /tmp/murex-release-launchpad-pairs.json.
