Post type count not working; unable to publish multiple posts

When creating a second post on the same day:

• the post type count doesn’t appear to be incremented

• its therefore not possible to publish a post (GitHub store: Unprocessable Entity)

• perhaps unrelated: multiple records are created in the database for the same post:

Oh wait, the multiple posts might be down to me clicking publish several times. This is likely a separate bug; clicking Publish multiple times shouldn't create separate database entries.
