CareCenter for Codex is an unofficial local Windows tray and CLI utility for
maintaining the OpenAI Codex desktop app installation. It repairs failed
starts, cleans up inactive leftover desktop processes, checks Microsoft Store
package state, and maintains the local Codex SQLite log database without
telemetry or cloud uploads.

Important boundaries & Invariants (INV-LOCAL-01 through INV-SLA-10):
- This project is unofficial and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or
  sponsored by OpenAI.
- It targets Windows 10/11 and the Codex desktop app.
- INV-LOCAL-01: Zero-Egress local-only runtime. Normal runtime and default CLI commands never send
  telemetry, upload data, call external APIs, or use cloud sync. The explicit
  `store-materials --live-pages` command is a separate manual release preflight
  that requests configured Store URLs over HTTPS and reports its own warnings;
  it is not runtime telemetry.
- INV-NOELEV-02: Unprivileged user-mode execution (`RunAsInvoker`).
- INV-ISOLAT-03: Fail-closed process protection. Never terminates active work.
- INV-SESSIM-04: CLI session immunity for Node-based Codex CLI & `codex exec`.
- INV-ATOMIC-05: Pre-mutation SQLite snapshots (DB + WAL + SHM).
- INV-CRYPTO-06: Cryptographic integrity verification via `PRAGMA integrity_check`.
- INV-GRACE-07: Mandatory grace windows (30m orphan grace, 300s empty thread floor).
- INV-STAGGER-08: Staggered automation unpausing via Safe Start (60s default).
- INV-NONDEST-09: Non-destructive Microsoft Store package repair escalation.
- INV-SLA-10: Strict test parity (487+ tests) & 48-hour security response SLA.
- Multilingual Tier-2 Spanish support: complete 322-key translation catalog in
  `locales/translations.json`, 4-stage fallback chain (`active -> en -> de -> key`),
  and translation management CLI `manage_translations.py`.
- Spanish documentation parity: full README.es.md with 1:1 section, diagram,
  and quick navigation parity to README.md and README.de.md.
- Multi-resolution icon suite: authentic 7-layer Windows ICO (16px..256px),
  1024px master PNG, PWA mobile icon set, and Microsoft Store tile assets loaded
  via `app_icon_loader.py`.
- Zombie Killer Tray bridge: subprocess daemon monitoring via
  `zombie_killer_integration.py` with PID guards and non-elevation security.
- `CARE_CENTER_EXCHANGE_CONTRACT.md` defines the versioned, privacy-minimized,
  one-way CareCenter -> BACH/OCEAN health snapshot. It is a schema boundary, not
  a runtime transport, inbound command channel, or grant of repair authority.
- It stores config, logs, locks, and backups locally under
  %LOCALAPPDATA%\CareCenterForCodex by default, with automatic reuse of the
  legacy path C:\_Local_DEV\codex-maintenance when it already exists.
- Active node-based Codex CLI work is protected. A detached `codex exec` is only
  eligible for runtime-orphan cleanup after a hard 30-minute grace, a dead parent,
  two idle CPU snapshots, no recent session rollout, and no pending output target.
  A detached run without `--output-last-message` is excluded fail-closed.
  Broad read-only process detection blocks thread-store mutation while either
  Desktop or npm CLI is active.
- Idle `language_server*` processes with a dead parent remain runtime-orphan
  cleanup targets. Every successful orphan kill logs PID, command line, and the
  triggering criterion to the existing local `app.log`.
- Runtime MCP cleanup only targets old, idle launcher trees repeated under the
  Codex Store desktop app-server. It always preserves the newest launch cohort,
  the app-server itself, unrelated children, and every CLI app-server.
- Loop mode treats Fast as the regular maintenance point. Safe is only an
  extended catch-up attempt after Fast close retries fail; if the next interval
  becomes due before Safe succeeds, Safe is cancelled and Fast starts again.
