The archinstall project is not anti-AI, but a growing number of low-effort, AI-generated contributions waste maintainers' time. This policy sets clear guidelines for AI use. Contributors must follow it.
-
Disclose all AI usage. This applies to PRs, issues, comments, and other discussions. State the tool used (e.g. Claude Code, Cursor) and which parts of your work it assisted with.
-
Understand your changes. If you submit AI-assisted code, you must fully understand every change, the code paths involved, and their impact. You should be able to explain your changes during review. If you are unwilling to invest the time to understand the code, please do not contribute.
-
Review and edit before posting. Issues, comments, and discussions must be reviewed and edited by a human before submission. Cut verbosity and focus on the main point.
-
Low-effort AI submissions will be rejected. Submissions that are unreviewed, not understood by their author, or padded with generated filler ("AI slop") may be closed without comment. Accounts associated with such submissions may be blocked from future contributions.
-
Scope. These rules apply primarily to outside contributors, to protect maintainers' time and give more weight to contributors who invest theirs. Maintainers are trusted to use AI tools with good judgement, but are still encouraged to disclose significant AI usage.

Human attention requires human effort.
