No pre-built binaries are bundled in this repository. All binaries are built from the workspace source. The user-facing binaries are:
rocm(apps/rocm) — the main CLI binary; user-facing commands for SDK install, engine management, configuration, and the TUI dashboardrocmd(apps/rocmd) — the engine daemon; spawned byrocmto host engine processes and expose a local HTTP API
In addition, each engine crate under engines/ builds its own
rocm-engine-<name> host binary (for example rocm-engine-lemonade,
rocm-engine-vllm), spawned by rocmd to run a specific inference engine.
All binaries are compiled from the workspace source using the standard Cargo
toolchain (see rust-toolchain.toml for the pinned toolchain version).
rocm-cli downloads two categories of assets at runtime, on demand, not bundled in the repository:
When rocm install sdk is invoked, the CLI downloads and installs the TheRock
ROCm distribution. Two install formats are supported:
- Wheel format — Python wheel packages (
rocm,torch,torchvision,torchaudio) are resolved from AMD-hosted PyPI-compatible indexes and installed viauvinto a managed virtual environment. Release channel wheels are served fromhttps://repo.amd.com/rocm/whl-multi-arch. Nightly channel wheels are served fromhttps://rocm.nightlies.amd.com/whl-multi-arch. - Tarball format — Prebuilt SDK tarballs are downloaded from AMD-hosted
artifact storage. Release channel tarballs are served from
https://repo.amd.com/rocm/tarball/. Nightly tarballs are served fromhttps://rocm.nightlies.amd.com/tarball/. The metadata index files for tarball installs are optionally verified with an RSA/SHA-256 detached signature (controlled byROCM_CLI_METADATA_PUBLIC_KEY_PATH/ROCM_CLI_METADATA_PUBLIC_KEY_PEM); the tarball binary itself is not signature-verified.
Nothing is downloaded until the user explicitly runs rocm install sdk or
rocm update. The CLI does not auto-install any ROCm SDK on first launch.
When a wheel-format SDK install is performed and no uv binary is available
via ROCM_CLI_UV_BINARY, the CLI downloads a standalone uv binary from the
official uv GitHub releases at https://github.com/astral-sh/uv/releases/.
The binary is cached in the rocm-cli managed data directory and reused for
subsequent operations. The version may be pinned via ROCM_CLI_UV_VERSION.
uv's own content-addressed package cache is also kept in the managed data
directory (at <data-dir>/uv-cache), so that it is reachable from the
environments uv populates without crossing a mount point and packages can be
hardlinked into them instead of copied. Note it is the mount, not the
filesystem: a bind mount or subPath volume is enough to make Linux refuse the
hardlink, and uv then silently copies. This cache holds every wheel uv
downloads — the ROCm SDK and the torch stack included — so it is typically the
largest directory rocm-cli manages, on the order of several GB per SDK version
installed. It is removed by rocm uninstall unless --keep-data is passed, and
its location can be overridden with ROCM_CLI_UV_CACHE_DIR.
When rocm engines install lemonade is run, the CLI downloads a prebuilt
Lemonade embeddable archive from the official Lemonade SDK GitHub releases at
https://github.com/lemonade-sdk/lemonade/releases/. The archive is extracted
to the rocm-cli managed data directory and is reused for subsequent
rocm engines start lemonade invocations. This is a self-contained binary
distribution; no Python packages are installed for Lemonade by rocm-cli.
On Linux/WSL, rocm engines install lemonade may also query
https://api.github.com/repos/lemonade-sdk/llama.cpp/releases/latest (an
unauthenticated call) while aligning Lemonade's llamacpp:rocm backend to
the active ROCm SDK version; see
Lemonade backend alignment on engine install.
The vLLM engine manages Python packages through the uv binary described
above, installed from the TheRock PyPI index and, where applicable, from public
PyPI (https://pypi.org). No Python packages are bundled in the repository. The
vLLM engine can also record an externally-provided runtime supplied by the user
instead of installing one. Lemonade ships as a self-contained embeddable
distribution and installs no Python packages through rocm-cli.
The docs/ directory contains developer-facing documentation covering testing
procedures, release trust and signing policy, UX guidelines, engine-specific
notes, and other operational information. This content is intended for
contributors and is part of the public source distribution.
The scripts/ directory contains Python and shell scripts for local smoke
testing, GPU integration tests, release packaging, and CI support. These are
development tools, not shipped to end users.
No media assets (images, icons, fonts, audio, or video) are included in this repository.
This manifest should be updated at each release. To regenerate the Cargo dependency table, run:
cargo xtask manifestTHIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.txt at the repo root lists every third-party crate
distributed with rocm-cli and the full text of its license. It is generated
from the dependency lockfile by cargo-about using the committed about.toml
(accepted licenses) and about.hbs (output format). Regenerate it whenever the
dependency tree changes — and as part of every release — with:

cargo xtask tpnWith the prek hooks installed this runs automatically whenever you commit a dependency-graph change, so the notices rarely go stale by hand; the hook skips if cargo-about is absent or not the pinned version.
CI verifies the committed file is current with cargo xtask tpn --check; a new
dependency under a license not listed in about.toml fails the check until the
license is reviewed and added (or the dependency dropped). CI pins the
cargo-about version shown above — install that same version so your regenerated
file matches the check.
