QGIS3 Port Help

I know you don't want to put in the effort to port this to QGIS3 but I really like the search bar with multiple layer searches and it is great for the "non-technical" user. So I am trying to give it a go and was wondering if you would be willing to provide some assistance.
I cannot find a way to get a similar search experience with vanilla QGIS3

Hi @tveinot , my users really like this plugin. They don't undertand the inbuilt locator filter...
I can give assistance to port the plugin but unfortunately I don't know python or Qt.
I can make tests.
